I don't know whether I'd still do it, but this happened to me once. I was driving along when I saw this kite lying on the middle of the road. I thought it was dead at first, but saw it moving its wings. It had a part above its eye where the head was crushed. Assume it was hit by a part of an airplane, as this happened near the Trivandrum International Airport. I took it to the SPCA, but even they couldn't do much about it. After I went back to get my bike, and returned, they told me that it died.
I got a lot of stares from a lot of people that day, India, particularly Kerala, being a place where people are not that sensitised to animal rights. When I stopped my bike to get down and pick up that bird, I could see people actually laughing as if they thought I was crazy. Anyway, I was younger at that time, with a rebellious streak in me, and would have cared s*** about what someone else thought of me. I used to do my own stuff.
Now being in a 'respectable' profession, there is a certain 'decorum' and 'dignity' I am expected to maintain, so to speak. I'm not sure whether I'd still have the courage to ignore people's derision if I did something out-of-the-ordinary like that again. Sometimes I wonder whether I've really progressed or regressed in life.

As I was driving a coach over the West Pennine moors in the dark a large owl flew into the windscreen. It was knocked quite far over the verge and I didn't think I'd be able to find it if I went back looking for it.
I stopped at the first phone box (before mobile phones) and called the police, feeling a bit stupid (in Greater Manchester on a Saturday night, calling the police about a bird) but they said they'd call the local animal rescue service, which made me feel better.
A666 coming in to Egerton from Darwen, if anyone knows it.

I stay in an particularly rural section with deer, coyotes, bears etc. on occasion i visit make certain a wild animal injured alongside the area of the line I call the ideal government to attend to it as an injured animal is risky.. As for domesticated animals I additionally call the ideal government for a similar reason... i'm neither equipped or qualified to attend to helping an injured and doubtlessly risky animal.... If I have been to quit, go out my automobile and attempt to help the injured animal i'm putting myself and doubtlessly others in harms way... If the animal spooks and darts into the line yet another driving force would desire to hit it or swerve to ward off it with ability risky outcomes.... If the animal spooks and injures me i'm now on the area of the line yet anothercontinual would desire to quit to help me additionally getting injured.. that's often terrific to call the ideal government as they are the two equipped and experienced to attend to the placement.. i'm not...

Yes being a vegetarian I can't stand to see an animal needlessly suffer. I think part of being a person is having a concern for all living creatures, and part of my innate humanism wouldn't allow me to leave a wounded animal alone on the road. I don't think some animals matter more important than others but I do think we have stronger connections with some animals based on numerous reasons.

I would take it to the vet. If I ran over an animal I would do all I could for it.
An injured bird I would take to a friend who is good at helping them live.

I would most likely phone animal rescue or number on tag if it is a domestic animal.
I think all animals matter. Most I would prefer to make any animals last moments more comfortable although in some cases it might be required to consider putting the animal out of unnecessary suffering.

I would most likely put it out of its misery depending on how injured the animal is.

I would most definitely take it to my vet.Whatever animal it is.Even a little sparrow i would wrap up and take home with me.I could never bring myself to put an animal out of its misery.I live in the countryside so you can imagine the animals i find in the lanes.I pick every one up and bury them in a nice place..(sad to some i know)
