Yes there are still a lot of treasure to find.
I will tell you the story of one, that my dad told me.
Unfortunatly for you, I will keep the names of people and location. My dad is from a caribbean island. When he was a teen, in the 50's, he was going to another small island where his mother (my grand mother) is from. On this island, there was a man, who was building models of old sailing boats for the Navy Museum of a european country. This man was a kind of anarchist, his child, my dad's friend, was not going to school, they were teaching him in the house. The man had no bank account. However, he was always having money. Once, he took his son and my dad in the mountain. They walk up to the plateau then to a kind of narrow valley. The man asked the 2 children to stand by near a mango tree. He went and 20 minutes later, he was back with 5 gold coins from the french king Louis 15th. He even gave 1 to my dad and I saw it with my eyes. He said it was his own "bank account". He said it was a small "butin" from privateers hidden in a cave with a sandy ground. That's all. The man died in the 70's. His son and his wife are dead as well.
A nice story and I believe it because I saw the coin. And because I know the island and how easy it is to hide some money. The island is a plateau of limestone, so it is very possible to have some caves. And it was well known as a place where privateers were hiding because there is only one single pass through the coral barreer.
Another story, more bitter : some years ago, I was looking for the money of a great aunt, she hided in a biscuit box some silver and gold coins when the germans invaded France in 1940. She put the coins at the foot of one tree, on the small road between Reims and Ecueil, near an old stone well. I went there with my metal detector, searched near some trees, quite young. I asked then to an old farmer whether there was 3 older trees before, he told me the germans uproots them in 1943 during a very cold winter... They probably found the money !!!
So YES, there are still a LOT of treasures. To start with, I advise you to move to Europe and use a metal detector and avoid historical places because it is forbidden to use such items on archeological sites.
