Is a Dance Dance Revolution worth buying? (with the dance mat, duh)?

What are the advantages and disadvantages?

When you're playing DDR in the privacy of your home you have the advantage of being able to let loose, have fun, and experiment with songs or difficulties that are unfamiliar to you without worrying about looking foolish in front of arcade patrons.
You also don't have to pay every 3 songs so you can play as long as you like, and if you mess up, it's no big deal.
In the PS2/Xbox/Xbox 360 versions there are more modes than you would find on an arcade machine, including Workout mode that tracks your progress over time, like calories burned. They also have an Edit mode, where you can compose your own dances to the songs.

A disadvantage is that you cannot use shoes on a soft mat, or you'll destroy it. They also tend to slide around a little while you dance. If you're used to the huge sturdy arcade machines it will take some adjusting to.
If you play it on a floor other than the basement you might shake the house when you really start jumping around and cause things to fall over (I've broken a few things in my day) or simply annoy everyone.
If you don't have a nice sound system the tinny TV speakers may not have the same adrenaline pumping impact the arcade machine speakers have.
