Spackle - put it on, but mound it up a little, it shrinks when it dries - and then lightly sand it level before you paint - it dries in 10 minutes or less.

Simply t got it right....spackling compound. You can buy it in a small container, specifically for filling holes or patching small areas.

If they are really small nail holes you can use white tooth paste too.
