Appearance, edicate, and confidence are all things that are admirable to everyone; and pagents promote these things. Pagents promote good health, personality, and give scholarships to the deserving winners. It encourages girls and women to be well-rounded ladys. It takes work, but what you learn is worth it.

I am actually "pro" pageants for teens and older because I chose to participate in them when I was younger and found they gave me confidence, public speaking skills, comfortable doing interviews and the ability to smile for hours on end :)
From what I observed, pageants were a choice. NOONE forced their teenage daughters into it (now children pageants are different and I won't address that) but I have seen high budget and low budget pageants and did not see a reason for them to be banned. Ofcourse the people who did poorly in them would probably state otherwise.

I think beauty pageants are boring, inane crap BUT as long as there are women happy to be judged, and people willing to do the judging, I really don't see any problem in their doing so. What I DO object to, however, are the children's pageants, popular in the States, which turn pretty little girls into self-obsessed mini-teens swinging their non-existent hips and little flat chests to provocative music while made up like your average streetwalker.
