Before trying to shutdown, I’ve turn of the AV , firewall & disconnected from the Internet, checked with task manger & nothing is running in the background.

Any idea's welcome please.

I have received E-Mail from a friend of mine with the same level of computer knowledge as me.
Normally if a computer has a shutdown problem he would do the following:
1. Check to see if the PC was clean of viruses & spyware.
2. Run scandisk or error checking as it’s called on XP.
3. Check to make sure no programs are still running in the background on shutdown.
4. If none of these work re-install OS.

He states that the only PC he will not work on because they keep getting shutdown problem is TINY PC’s he believe Emachine have the same problem – Cheap PC parts, which are the clause of the problem– does anyone agree?

Hi Guys – sorted one PC out, clicked start then run & typed Msconfig, then un-ticked Load System Services box then clicked OK – restart & turn off computer three times, then went back on myself & re-ticked the Load System Services box now it’s running & shutting down ok, the second computer I’m still having trouble with.

try to run "shut down" many times(start > turn of f> shut down). My PC currently has the same problem and it takes 2 times to shut it down-the first time it tries to shut down, it closes a few applications and the wireless software disconnects from the router, but cancels the current shutdown sequence by interrupting with a reconnection attempt. The second shutdown closes all the applications automatically and successfully shuts down.

Usually old PCs get this problem, which may be caused by past applications (both installed and uninstalled). Reinstalling the OS alone may solve the problem.

try to click the shutdown button a lot of times, if it really fails, re-install the operating system
