no no. not y=x
[x] I mean.
for example if x= 1/5437879
then y = 1

y = [[ x ]] is known as the greatest integer function, also known as the floor function.

Graphically, this function will look like "steps", and will get graphed as follows:

1) Plot the point (0, 0) as a closed circle. Using (0, 0) as a starting point, make a line connecting (0, 0) to (1, 0). **Important** at the point (1, 0), make an open circle.

2) Plot the point (1, 1) as a closed circle. Make a horizontal line connecting (1, 1) and (1, 2), but at (1, 2) make an open circle.

3) Plot the point (2, 2) as a closed circle. Make a horizontal line connecting (2, 2) to (2, 3), and at (2, 3) is an open circle.

Repeat the process, and it will be obvious what the graph looks like. See the link in the references for a graphical representation.

if your function is y = | x | as compared to y = x the | | is absolute value which means if a number is negative make it positive ex: if x = -1 , y = + 1 if x = - 2, y = 2 the graph of the absolute value of x looks like the letter V, and is symmetric about the Y axis, and does not enter the 3rd and 4th quadrants of the graph.....meaning Y is never a negative value Hope that helps you!

it represents the abs function.so for every value of x,y will be +ve value and equal to x.
so you will draw the graph by joining these points.
(-3,3)
(-2,2)
(-1,1)
(0,0)
(1,1)
(2,2)
(3,3)
it will pass thru (0,0) and will be at degree 45 to the x,y axis.

very simple

if y=1
thenx=1
if y =2
thenx=2
ify=3
thenx=3
plot this

x=1,2,3
y=1,2,3
