Take a look around at family members. Father, and uncles on both of your parents sides of the family. Do you see a lot of bald men? If you do, talk with them about the ages they were when the first noticed hair loss. What you're experiencing my be genetic.
You should also know that it is normal for the average human to lose about 100 hairs every day. Do you think you're losing more than that?
Look at the individual hairs that fall out. Do you see a tiny light colored 'bulb' at the end that was closest to your scalp? If you do, you'll know that the hair fell out because it was at the end of its growth cycle. That doesn't mean it won't grow back. It just means that the hair was supposed to fall out. If you don't see that bulb at the end, it means the hair broke off. Breakage can be caused by rough treatments like scratching, hard brushing, or styling products that dry the hair. It can also be caused by some illnesses.
If you think your hair loss is excessive, make an appointment with your doctor. You will either be treated, or referred to a dermatologist. There are several drugs that can be used to treat hair loss. Rogaine, Propecia, Corticosteroids, and Drithocreme are the most common.

Try not shampooing every day and go without shampooing for let's say every five days. You worrying about it doesn't help either. Head and Shoulders shampoo fights dandruff so unless you have a severe case of it don't use it everyday, maybe it is drying out your scalp and then your hair follicles react to the dryness by shedding the hair. I once read about a guy who had not shampooed for about 10 years, don't laugh he had a full head of hair. Experiment, as everyone is different. I also once read that some salad dressings contain something called edtna or something like that which is a hair stimulator look for it on some salad dressings and see if it works, you eat it so don't go putting it on your hair or you may be smelling of garlic or basil as well.

Sorry, but these people are ignorant to hair loss. I started losing it at 21, doctor put me on Rogaine. It kept my hair, and actually grew a lot more (on the hairline, the box says its not for there, but thats BS). I used it in combination with Nioxin system 2 Shampoo (takes out the DHT of the scalp, which is the hormone that stops growth of hair). Also take "saw palmetto" capsules, they block DHT as well. "flaxseed oil" capsules are also good for hair growth, and so is a supplement called "ZMA". You can buy all these on www.amazon.com.
Also go on www.hairlosshelp.com/forums
There are a lot of people on their with the same problem and various solutions.

ometimes it happens as a result of illness. Even stress, excessive weight loss, iron deficiency & thyroid problems can cause hair loss.
If you're really worried, ask your doctor, however, experts say you really only need to worry if your part is getting wider or you can see your scalp through your hair. But don't worry, not all hair loss is permanent. There is a specialty doctor called a 'trichologist,' an expert in hair problems. You can make an appointment and ask the doc for a diagnosis.
