Their ages are 39 and 16 (legal age in nevada is 16).
He is totally in love with her but won't tell her because of age difference and her inexperience with relationships. What could possibly happen here?

Besides the obvious social stigmas? My Mommy says I can go to the movies with you tonight but they can't be rated R, and I have to be back by 9 because its a school night.

First of all let me say this: Personally speaking I think it a bad idea from a lot of angles. I'm not going to list them because the posters in front of me already mentioned them.
At 39 - 16, there's 23 years difference here. You are 2 1/2 times as old as she.
Solution: Wait, say, 7 years. Now you are 46 and she is 23. Now you are only 2 times as old as she is.
Still might not be right.
So now you wait, say, 20 more years. Now you are 66 and she is 43, only 1 1/2 times as old.
Question: Now how long do you have to wait before she catches up and you can be married to where people won't talk?

A lot of things could happen. My best girl friend got into a relationship with a 47 year old guy after high school. It lasted 3 years. Its hard to say what could happen. Just be in store for a lot of judgement. I had judgements about this relationship but I shut my mouth. I ended up thinking the guy was a nice guy. In the end, its hard because of experiences are different. Younger people tend to have a fresher outlook while older people have an outlook that's more wary. After a while, its hard to deny the differences, but if you can make it work, then okay. BUT I would say wait until after she turns 18. If the guy is in love with her, he will wait.

I realize there are other cultures in this world where young women take on more mature roles earlier in life... but in America today, sixteen is still a kid.... still in school, still concentrating on shopping malls and prom dresses and endless phone calls to other sixteen year-old girls. Any 39 year-old man who actually considers himself compatible with that personality has some serious problems.

In our society, we encourage teens to focus on their education, to build social skills and to date within their own age group during their high school years, and hopefully go on to college or trade school before pursuing adult relationships. Kids that age are impressionable and easily led astray from their life goals. They are prone to making poor choices and don't readily know what is best for their own future... and that is why a 39 year old man chasing after a 16 year old girl is considered a predator. He is old enough (and ought to be mature enough) to know that this sort of relationship is NOT in the girl's best interest at this point in her life.

Most people find that to be creepy. But it's maturity that matters. After all, age is but a number (depending on the situation of course!). I don't think he should tell her, cause she might get a little freaked out and the friendship they have may be a little awkward. Or perhaps if he told her his feelings for her, something special may bloom from their friendship. Who knows.

It's best for him to leave her alone. She's not mature enough for a relationship. If he thinks he's in love with her, he should spend a little more time evaluating that - perhaps it's just lust. Maybe he should see a counselor.

She's a CHILD. She should be doing childish things, not getting involved with a grown adult male.

Whoever this man is he needs to get away from this girl. Girls at this age are very vunerable they are still growing, whatever he does to her will impact her whole life. He is a grown adult and he should know better.
