David Hicks has plead guilty. I feel like he only said it because he was afraid to go back there.

How do people feel about this outcome? Should he return home or get a psychiatric evaluation or something?

Australian guy held in that Guantamo bay for something like 4 years without trial. US government went through a lot of different charges, finding a new one when the old one was dropped, didn't want to bring him to trial without a solid case. So he sat there for four years waiting. Apparently he was tortured too.

US did give him a lawyer. Lawyer thought he'd be at trial in a month. That was 3 years ago. XD

Aussie government didn't do a thing to get the trial process happening till a few weeks ago, they were waiting for election year.

He just pled guilty and I'm worried that maybe he's not mentally able to cope now.

After being there, he needs psychiatric help for sure. That place needs to be shut down. What happened to him is happening to a lot of people and it's just not right.

The outcome didn't surprise me. This whole situation is deplorable. Australia should have stepped in a long time again to rescue their citizen. He should not have been locked up for 5 years without a FAIR trail. The one he went to was a joke. And of course he was going to plead guilty, any person in that situation would have. The best thing the govt can now do is bring him home, and the public needs to vote Howard out of office in November.

Four Corners journalist Debbie Whitmont said: Four Corners can confirm, that in Guantanamo, Hicks signed a statement written by American military investigators that includes the following, "I believe that al-Qaeda camps provided a great opportunity for Muslims like myself from all over the world to train for military operations and jihad. I knew after six months that I was receiving training from al-Qaeda, who had declared war on numerous countries and peoples."

On 17 March, 2006, the (UK) Home Office stated during its appeal case that Hicks had admitted in 2003 to the Security Service (British intelligence agency MI5) that he had undergone extensive terrorist training in Afghanistan.

The Indian government has launched an investigation into attacks by Hicks on their armed forces in Kashmir, 2000.

It is a disgrace. John Howard and Alexander Downer should be ashamed of themselves.

Guilty or not, the way David Hicks has been treated is criminal and against human rights.

I know that if received the same treatment (torture, solitary confinement, being kept in a cage), I would plead guilty to ANYTHING to come home!

BRING HICKS HOME!!

I think if John Howard didn't have his head so far up Bush **** he would have done something a long time ago and the only reason he is now is because there is an election coming up that he wont win.Nice to know his citizens are less important to him than the Yanks.
Notice that they treated an American John Walker completely different
