Packing for Your Infant
Infants tend to be low-maintenance travelers who sleep a good deal of the time. Even so, they need a remarkable amount of stuff to stay comfortable and happy. Here's a checklist of items you shouldn't travel without, plus tips for easy, efficient packing.
Diapers
One for each hour you'll be in transit, plus extras in case of emergencies or delays
2 vinyl diaper wraps with Velcro closures
Extra insurance against leaks, whether you use cloth or disposable diapers
Receiving blanket(s)
Bring at least one for comfort, shade, and warmth; some experts advise carrying three (one for your baby to lie down on, one to cover her with, and one to protect your clothes from messy burps)
Plastic grocery or zip-lock bags
Carry a variety of sizes for storing soiled diapers, clothes, and shoes
Diaper rash ointment
Premoistened wipes
Sample-size containers of powder and lotion
Tissues
Extra pacifier
Clothes
One to two outfits per day. Cotton sack suits provide easy access to diapers and are great for travel
Washable bibs
Sun hat
Food, formula, water, and/or juice
With extra bottles, nipples, etc. Bring more than you think you'll need, since you can't predict travel delays
Breast pump
If you want time-off from breastfeeding
Nightlight
For performing nighttime diaper changes without turning on the lights
Sling or child carrier for newborns
Lightweight and easy to pack. One study showed that babies who were carried in a sling or in their parents' arms cried less than other babies
Lightweight, collapsible crib
Necessary unless you reserve one at your accommodations or your baby sleeps with you
Infant car seat for safe travel by car, plane, train, or bus
It can double as an infant seat, too (but never use an infant seat as a car seat)
Collapsible stroller
Lightweight, convenient, and can be stored in the overhead bin of an airplane
Packing Tips
Start preparing to pack a few weeks before you travel. Keep an ongoing list of items to bring, or put items out on a table or dresser as you think of them
Use a baby bag with a waterproof lining and a shoulder strap
Pack an extra shirt or top for yourself in your carry-on bag
Prevent leaks by packing medicines and toiletries in re-sealable plastic bags
Bring a 2-foot square of plastic, vinyl, or even washable wallpaper to put under your baby during diaper changes (you can buy commercial changing pads for this purpose, too)
Keep an energy-boosting snack handy for you to munch on
Keep your baby's outfits together in one suitcase. If you're really organized, you can pack each outfit in a plastic bag or roll the clothes and secure them with a rubberband
Bring your camera and plenty of film
Bring a clip-on reading light so you can read without disturbing your baby

You can buy a bottle sterilizer or just boil them in some water for about 5 mins. You can also get an insulated bottle holding bag. It can keep milk warm or cold and fresh for baby to eat. Or just carry a bottle of water with you and a can of formula so you can mix it at any time (if you dont breastfeed that is). You will need bottles, pacifiers, diapers, wipes, formula (if you use it), some weather appropriate clothes (check what the weather is going to be like there), you might want to take a stroller and some toys, a portable changing pad (usually comes with most diaper bags), and maybe a portable bassinet. Remember to pack more for the baby than you do for yourself (thats the first rule of travelling with a baby lol) And you'll want to bring his/her car seat along also. And some jammies, maybe sunscreen, a hat or two, a toothbrush (if s/he has teeth), baby soap and shampoo, a brush or comb, teething rings, blankets, diaper rash ointment, maybe some Tylenol if s/he needs it while you're there and a thermometer just in case s/he gets sick. Just pack anything and everything you can think of. Even pack things you're not sure if you're going to need. You dont want to be stuck in Calcutta with something the baby needs lying on his/her dresser at home.
