well all of europe is expensive to start with your question. it really depends on how you want to spend your money. if you want somewhere cheap, you go to the cheap areas. if you want a lavish hotel, you go to the expensive areas. its as simple as that. europe is not a cheap continent.

From the counties you have named France is the most expensive(and is not really a southern country)and Spain is probably the cheapest.

Well depends were you wanna go , theorically Spain but depends very much the location you visit , is not the same Grenoble or Napoli ( France and Italy) than Marbella ( Spain).
Check before an specific area , and find out about the county around!

Greece Portugal Spain Italy are kind of expensive countries, maybe Portugal and Greece are the cheapest ... but Croatia, and all the yugoslavian countries are much cheaper...though the standards are kind of low but anyway what you pay is what you get!

None of them are particularly cheap. Of the three, probably Spain. Or Portugal.

i think they are equally the same coz they all use euro's.Only way if u want a cheap holiday is to visit "poorer" countries such as Czech,Bulgaria,Poland...etc. Then again it depends on a cheap place to have a holiday.U can always budget ureself on hostels or budget hotels & transport etc.Cheers! :)
