Currently, I would have to say no. Of course, with racism, it takes a long time to erase it. And there is obviously still racism that exists in government. But anymore, there really is very little keeping blacks from achieving the same goals as whites, given the same background. I would have to say that if anything, the only thing that may negatively effect blacks is through the hiring process of some discriminatory human resource workers or others controlling hirings. But after that generation is out the door, I think that negative conotations of being black in America is about to become negligible.
One thing that I do believe needs to improve is the parenting of lower class black families. Children are too often allowed to do and get into whatever they want, and this commonly leads to bad behavior. Parents need to make sure their children focus on school. This will lead to more higher class black families and further erase the negative views of blacks by those in society who prefer to group an entire race together rather than look at each individual person, no matter what their color, and judge them for what matters most - their character.
And might I add, that when the Italian came to America, they were kept down. When the Irish came, they were kept down. There are many examples of this in America. Each culture must fight through this and earn their way into the success. For this is America, where anybody can prosper through hard work and dedication (and a positive attitude too - not the negative, "I'm being kept down by the system" attitude).

Without getting into a huge history discussion, for the present time now in 2007, I think that society is not designed to keep the black 'man' down. Rather women of all races are the ones struggling, as well as male and female migrants from all different countries and the list goes on. Being a women I could complain about things (which I sometimes do) or can just get on with things. I think that unless something really terrible is currently happening then other people should get on with things too.

Nobody wants to give up power that they have, I believe many white people are the same. Some white men see us as a threat. If we are generally considerd more athletic and prove to be their equals intellectually-that'll make some of the weaker minded ones insecure. I think a lot of effort in the past has been put into making sure we don't advance. I think the most effective plan was making sure we developed negative habits and incorporated that into a culture or way of life (keeping us in poverty & providing drugs). If that's not the case, then only other explanation is we really are degenerates by nature, which is absurd. (Look at the contributions to American culture we have contributed) Now however blatant racism is not necessary, we keep ourselves down. We owned more property in the 20's then we do now. So many of us, if we won a $100,000 we would buy a Lexus truck and throw some D's on them instead of putting it down on a house, condo or something where we could make more money, then go out and get that truck (w/ the rims) Its still designed to keep us down, but that design includes us cooperating with it, which many of us do.

No, not at least for the past forty years, that's about two generations. I hope you will not take this as a racist remark, because it isn't meant that way.
I think American Blacks have been "shooting themselves in the foot" as it were. Not taking full advantage of educational opportunities, accusing Blacks who succeed in business and government of being Uncle Toms. Pushing a "different " culture to the point of not experiencing what has been the culmination of a thousand years of European and Asian culture Classical music is looked down on, in favor of rap, etc.
I think perhaps even Black leaders have either unintentionally or maybe even on purpose made less of an issue of education, speaking the language properly and the battle against drugs and crime FROM WITHIN THE BLACK FAMILY than they could have.
I think perhaps the past is dwelt on more than it should be. I think too much time is spend seeking the glory of the past, here and in Africa, rather than planning the future and the contribution which Black people will offer in this generation and the ones to follow.
I'll stop here, as most will blast me, I know, but my intentions are good, even though I know I don't start to have all of the answers. I know changes are going to be made by Blacks, not legislated by Whites. If America truly is or was "The Melting Pot" is was because different groups BLENDED together. Learning new ways from other, teaching their own established ways in the meantime. They didn't for generation after generation stay as clumps in the pot, they melted in.
You asked the question, I answered the way I see it, and I hope it was taken as respectful encouragement.

Fact from fiction, truth from diction. There is still a measure of Jim Crow around. You can get him as far as the lobby before someone invites him back up stairs, even if they give him a different coat and put a hat on his head.
The culture of the Black community changed. Back in the day when rights were not a right we had. We(the Black community)stuck up for one another and helped each other out. Then came the gansters, gansters turned rappers and the drug culture. Then a whole generation got brainwashed that slinging 'caine and other contraband was the road to wealth. They seen these gangsta rapping fools with fancy cars and big "dope ropes" around their neck and equated that with wealth. Who needed an education? And since all this was a magnet to chicken head girls who were just as ignorant. You have the next generation of children growing up with absentee fathers. Ain't cool to play the daddy thing in other than title only. Too many other hos to get naked(after all, it is how much trim you got and how fat your wallet measure a man in the Hood)
This is the best time ever for Black parents to get something to leave their children but most live for the here and now. I want it all, and I want it now"
When I was in high school, I peeped it out. Most of my non-black friends families had SOMETHING. A dry cleaners, restaurant, car dealership. And my friends would put in work there. Cleaning up at 1st but then more. So they had something that would be their's oneday. And they were learning what it took to work in society. Most of my Black friends just wanted to "get over", skirt the rules. They did not want to put work in over years to get the "good life". They sought to take as many short cuts as possible. And when it goes South(and often does)the lawyer gets all the money, because they had to sell the cars and gold(if it did not get confiscated)to try and buy a defence. Seems they never could decipher the difference of being a Black man of wealth, or a n***** with money.

Dude, you should know. You're 'Mr. Death Row Records'. Do you think that guys like you give Black people a good image in the media? Racist, stupid white people think (and have always thought) that black men are violent, greedy, sex-crazed idiots. How do any of the videos you produce dispell these images?
There was a time when it looked like black music was going to be the new punk rock--the community was eloquently speaking out and asking hard questions. Guys like Gil Scott Heron, groups like Public Enemy and Grandmaster Flash asked people to really look at racism and then DO something about it.
Then producers like you came along.....!!!

Society has been structured, not just to keep 'black' people down, but also nearly every other ethnic person, and more recently religion is also used to segregate and that also means that many 'white' races are also being kept 'down'.

nicely, i'm a grown guy, and that i've got met many black women persons who i've got been attracted to. this is not any diverse in any respect from the attraction i've got faith in the direction of white women persons. some white adult men would sense that there are cultural variations that shop them from heavily pondering a black woman, jointly as others are positively placed off because of the fact of their own racial prejudices or the prejudices of their friends and family contributors. does not look to artwork that way with white women persons and black adult men, so I would desire to assert that i'm baffled. that's actual which you seldom see a white guy with a black woman.

Perhaps, but we have successful points of reference to draw from: Will Smith, Barack Obama, Tyler Perry, etc., all of whom have become quite popular in their pursuits and dreams. So if the society is trying to keep any black people down, they have their work cut out for them...because some of us ain't hearing that.
