Human beings have been asking themselves this question since they could consciously perceive it. It's human nature to predate on other humans. There will never be world peace. It will only be different levels of chaos and violence here and there but never complete peace.
It's very sad that it is this way and I'm not sure what would need to change to alter this being as it is.
You would think that religion would reduce it but it's just the opposite, religion increases it. People kill each other in the name of God.
People will kill you because you don't look like they do. People will kill you because you don't follow their political ideology as they have. People will kill you because you speak another language. People will kill you because you don't have the same religion as they have. People will kill you because (fill in the blank yourself).
So you see, world peace will never happen. It's a fantasy to think it can....

Yes, it's a big question but you have to understand that violence is part of human nature. The only right answer to your question is this; (are you ready, this is the real answer to world peace..remember this)

A cleansing is need of all religions and references to religion or God .
This is because the current batch of religions is worthless .
