Recently, the TV Program "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" tore down, than rebuilt a home for a family in the Kansas City area. Along with the home they also gave the family a new car. A Ford Mustang Convertable.
The family has nine kids.

I think people are missing the fact that a Ford Mustang Convertible is an illogical gift for a family of 11. It would have been better to get them a SUV or church-type van to transport that many people.
To answer your question, I don't think they were thinking, or they need to fire some people and employ smarter people.
