Neither acetone nor non-acetone will harm you if you use them, however each does have its pros and cons. Aetone based nail polish removers are the best solvent to remove polish but they are also the most drying to the skin and cuticle area.
Any non-acetone nail polish removers will not be as drying on the skin but they take longer to remove any unwanted polish from your nails. The only time one is recommended over the other is if you have artificial nails in which case you would use non-acetone nail polish removers to avoid ruining the nails. Otherwise, the type of remover you use is completely up to you and your preference. With that choice, a simple rule of thumb would be to use acetone nail polish removers when removing darker shades of nail polish and non-acetone for lighter or neutral shades.

Basically if you have acrylic nail do not use an acetone base. It breaks down the acrylic leaving you with weak nails you just paid for. It can also loosen the entire fake nail allowing water to get underneath that can cause a whole lot of other problem including fungus.

The non-acetone are supposed to be more gentle on your nails. It's cheaper in the long run to use a better quality polish remover. Buy it at a beauty supply place like Sally's. There are Sally's Beauty supply all ove in the US. I'm assuming you're in the US. Here's a link to the website.

Acetone is mainly used for removing fake nails. If you have fake nails, it will soften them and start to eat at them. If you are just wanting to take off nail polish, you could prolly just use non-acetone. It is more gentle on your nails.

acetone nail polish has this really weak acid stuff in it that removes the polish...im guessing non-acetone is probably not as effective but less harmful..

If you want to remove false nails (acrylic or gel) use Acetone. If you want to remove just polish use non - acetone.
