Feelings of sadness for things I have lost or left behind disappear very quickley. Friends I have lost stay in my memory for years and I often think of all of them. I always feel bad about that

This is a really interesting question.

For me the simple answer is yes.

It makes me wonder if I feel bad because I left something good, or if I feel bad because it might be replaced by something worse.

Probably the best response is to remember the good in what I left behind, and use that memory to find something better, as glib as that sounds.

A good thing would not want you to feel bad, or to feel chained to the past, and what it brought you before can lead to a better future.

I hope this helps.

yes and no, my life has no regrets. I've been treated like **** my whole life so I've had to do things for the better cause maybe out of vanity self interest and sheer self indulgence but always for the better good. I'm happy now.

Yes, mostly for leaving my cat behind when I left to start my nurse training.

Yes, a lot lately. I didn't realize the ramifications of some of my choices....trying to figure it all out now. No matter what you do, some things/people fall away and get lost

The only thing that gives me pangs - the loss of my baby and childhood photos. A friend asked to see them, I took them to her place and then when I went back a couple of weks later, she said maybe they are stuck in a book on the shelf or maybe I threw them out!! I have kicked myself for leaving them, resented her for "maybe throwing them out" (who DOES that??) and tried to remember what they look like...

When I was younger I did. If i lost a teddy bear or something similar, I would be distraught, not for myself as such, but because i believed my bear would be scared and lonely.
