There wasn't a lot of fun back then. They were tired from all their digging. And when the goldrushes happened, there were no women so all the men would visit brothels.

Apart from that, I've heard that they would sit around (because they mostly lived in boarding lodges with a family where meals were provided) and talk for many hours in the living room/around the fire. THey would share stories about acquaintances who'd struck gold or talk about a gold belt in another town. They'd talk about what they would do with the money etc.

You've got to remember, most gold mining places were way back in the day before television and radio. Talking was all they had.

Good luck

It's not really fun but it is about better quality of life on the gold-fields.
Question - 'How did Chinese immigrants make life better for the men on the gold-fields.'
Some of answer
- did laundry so men did not have to live in un-washed clothes
- bought goods for sale in, hastely put up, stores. Products like sugar for sweet-eating. As well as sweets, they sold hobby things like packs of cards, dice etc.
-some-times had chinese or puppet theatres.
There were other things Chinese immigrants did.
Although the white mens adventures were told and valued, the contribution of the Chinese immigrants is often forgotten.
Here in Australia where we also had gold fields (though our gold-fields were hot and American gold-fields were cold) at last the Chinese contribution is slowly being valued.
