I did some modelling work, but I never went after that. I just did some works that I considered to be good oportunity to have a good cash. My experience tought me the best way to get in this field is to go to some modeling agencies and get an evaluation. If they like you, they will explain everything and you won't spend a cent with pictures to produce your portofolio. A agent will direct you to the right people and they will create a good portofolio. I have met some girls, who have arrived in the agency with their portofolio already done, they paid photographers to take their picture and still they didn't get any work...There were some girls that look beautiful and still didn't get the job. The most important is to get a good agent. I only get into this field after a invitation ate the beach, I used to surf. This girl approached me and my mother asking my heigh, weight and year, and gave me her business card. I was too shy and I didn't call her, but my cousin got curious and wanted to see if they would like her, than she called the girl and I went with my cousin to the women's agency, there she told me she remember me and still had some works for someone like me, she got a photographer right away to run some test and told me to loose 10 pounds. After I had lost 8 pounds (she gave me only one month to loose it), I went back there and she set up auditions with photographers of the agency and they made my portofolio. Don't go to photographers studio alone ! I heard some stories. She knew that I wasn't plannig to follow this career and she only sent me to audditions that she knew I would do right. I was lucky to have had her as my agent, because she was very honest with me, we still talk sometimes as friends.
Don't give up if you go to agencys and don't get anything, keep going on, go to at leat 10 agencies and ask them indications, they make money with that too.
Good luck...by the way, send me a picture of your first cover. ;)
PS: They don't care about personality or qualification, they only care about you looking good in picture.
