I think they're all much alike. We bought a vax, but it's a bit pants. My mum and dad have a Bissell quick wash and we borrowed it - found it really good.
Beware though, we had a new carpet fitted last year and it's completely ruined because we shampooed it too many times (we have a dog and 3 year old - what can I say?) By buying one the temptation is to clean the carpet regularly and the fibres get damaged.

I have just bought the upright vax, and got 6 bottles of AAA cleaning fluid with it, brought my carpets up a treat.

your better off with a vaccume with a spinning brush on the bottom! (you have to vaccume the carpet befor you wash it anyway)

either rent a Rug Doctor or have someone do it... Hoover has one good model. All I can remember about it... it had blue plastic.

They all suck.
Hire it done, its way too much work to do it all yourself.
