the pills these days are complex drug delivery systems. they are coated to protect them from acid in stomach. they might be time releasing ones with one ingredient meant for release soon and another meant for slow release later on. they could be coated to mask bad taste or smell. crushing them would destroy all these purposes. but there are some tablets that need to be crushed before use specially the ones for children. SO PLEASE READ THE INSTRUCTION LEAFLET CAREFULLY AND WHEN IN DOUBT CALL YOUR DOCTOR

Some pills are time released. Crushing them interferes with the coating or other manufacturing process that makes this possible.

some medications and/or supplements are made with a time release factor in mind so that they will be best absorbed
