Why is our society so set on race and religion?

Somehow you are right. But our society is composed of people of various races who are free to embrace any religion. We cannot say that our society has no race - just the same with religion. To my opinion, we should not focus too much on what race this person, or that group of people belong. The same thing with religion. What concern us above all should be for the good and progress of our society and for the well-being of every person.

Therefore, there shouldn't be any distinction of race or religion.

Of course. America is a smattering of every type of ethnicity and religion because the Europeans began taking it over centuries ago. Most people, when asked what they are won't say they're American, but will list their ethnicities. Most people are proud of their heritage and religious beliefs and we have all those holidays and festivals, like St. Patrick's Day. Not accepting someone's race and/or religion is very stupid.

Race at this moment in time is the in thing to be involved with.
Religon is another matter i dont understand why the Church has so much say in our lives when less and less people even use them.

Generally people assign each other categories and titles to establish some form pecking order, placing one above the other. It is unfortunately very difficult for people to realise let alone stop.
