Seriously, there have been many mentally ill actors throughout history. Many of them were thought of as alcoholics and/or drug adicts, but a more enlightened understanding of mental illness tells us that a great number of these people were "self-medicating" with alcohol and drugs at a time when there were no medications for serious personality and mood disorders.
