First off I am a 21 year old college kid. I was at a party and road the neighbors bike home, on my way home I was arrested with Class A misdemeanor theft, my attorney told me that since it was my first offense that I can get the ruling deferred what exactly is a deference, and will the charge stay on my record?

Deferred adjudication , basically means the court will delay (defer) passing judgment on your case/charges for some specified period of time to show you are going to be "good" & have no further encounters w the law. It's similar to a suspended sentence.Listen to your attorney!

Good Luck!!
