Haha, again biology question that i need help with, I live in Oregon, like the home of bad science teachers =/.

stomata is a pore opening usually located on the undersurface of the leaf. The air containing carbon dioxide enters through this said opening which is used for photosynthesis which then produces oxygen as a by-product. Water vapor is also released through the stoma in the process known as transpiration. Now, the action of this structure in the leaves is controlled by the guard cells. When a certain situation is appropriate for the stoma to open, a proton pump drives from the guard cells. This mechanism increases osmotic pressure inside the cell which in return would increase the cell's volume and turgor pressure. Turgor pressure is the pressure applied by the cell contents to the cell wall of the plant cells. Since the wall of the guard cell is more rigid than that of the opposite wall of the cell, the two guard cells would tend to bow apart which will create the opening which would allow gas exchange to take place.
