What does it mean when someone says that I was about face about something?

"About face!" is a command used in the military as an "order" given by, for example, a drill sergeant to a group, squad or platoon of soldiers for them to make a quick, orderly, by the book, 180 degree turn to the opposite direction...usually performed in one, quick motion.

In the context of the way you use it in your question though, it would mean that you suddenly changed your view or opinion from what it was to the complete opposite...in other words, you simply changed your mind and did an "about face" and are now accepting what was once your opposing view.

If I were to use it in a sentence to illustrate it's meaning, I might say something like:
"Once the jury heard the testimony given by the accused, they quickly did an about face and changed their verdict from "guilty" to "not guilty".

It means they change their mind about something. You have a change of heart or a different point of view about something-maybe completely opposite of what it was before. Or it might just mean that they turn around like soldiers do when they are marching in formation.

It can mean either someone who backstabs - they might say one thing to you then do an about face and claim to someone else they never said that.
Or just to change their mind in general.
