Typical for home aquariums is 4-5 years but as others have said with careful keeping you can double that.

Normally betta fish live to be 2-5 years old, but some betta fish live to be nearly 8 years old. However, when purchasing from a pet store, it is not always possible to know how old the fish is when you take it home. Male bettas living in laboratories with large individual tanks and daily exercise have lived 10 years or longer.

Roger, my betta is 2 1/2 years old since the day I got him.

I had one for and lived 8 years but to be honest I don't know how old was he when I bought him. The thing is that when I bought him, he was mature because after a few weeks when I put a female one in a seperate tank but near him, he started to build the nest and do the necessary preparations for family raising. I still have some bettas who are his children and I'm glad about it.

To continue answering your question, I think that a betta can live up to 10 years if taken good care of.

Hope this helps.

well with proper care he can live up to 8 years. which if you have him in a community tank above 10 gallons this is more than likely! bettas do NOT thrive in small bowls! they DO thrive in open waters with other fish of their same nature. they are only aggressive twords other bettas and do amazing in a community tank. i have a 30 gallon community tank with 5 neon tetras, 5 black neon tetras, 5 cardinal tetras, one dwarf pleco, and a couple snails. and my betta is the centerpiece. ive had him for about 3 years now. if you do house him alone i would recommend putting him in at least a 5 gallon tank with a filter and water at room temp. the water should have 25% taken out weekly and dechlorinated water should replace that!!

ive had them live in bowls for no longer than 2 years since the day i got them. i have a book on bettas and it says 2-3 years, but i have heard of them living longer. they do a lot better in tanks than bowls. my mom has one in a one gallon bowl and it is no where near as happy as mine is. I have one male betta in a 5 gallon tank with one ghost shrimp and one oto catfish. he happily swims all around and just loves the room. ill bet he will live long like this. and 20 % weekly water changes.

they are usually about a year old when you buy them.

it depends how well you look after it.

i've always known that they live for about 2 to 3 years....
mine was fine...till i gave it to my uncle....then it died...
im pretty sure that was his fault!!!

make sure you buy a healthy one. dont get one of those poor depressed fish sold as ornaments in a glass of water!!! its just cruel and they are sick already...

go to a specialised aquarium and have a chat to someone who works there...

hope this helps

p.s. wow! all u pplz have had bettas for ages! well done!!
