During the 1970's people enjoyed wearing "unisex" clothing , or clothing that could be worn by both men and women. Platform shoes, hot pants and leisure suits were considered "far out" or what we call "cool". There were many items of clothing that were made to be worn by women, which included mini skirts, and hot pants. The unisex clothing styles included hip huggers, platform shoes, bell bottom jeans, T-shirts and pants suits.
Smiley faces, head bands with your hair ratted up in the back and the famous flip on the ends. Bright colors and lots of chains. Pancho's and high boots. Chunky jewelry.
I was a teenager in the 70's.

What part of the 70's?
They did the hippy thing, also the neat look, with high waisted dresses and those elaborate hair do.
In my age (mid 70's) we wore wide jeans - not bell bottoms - halter neck tops, shawls, long skirts, or mid skirts (not minis' although that was okay in the early 70's).
Make up was blue eyeshadow, lots of mascara - blusher.
Hair was parted in the middle in curtains or cut in shaggies, the Purdey look, perms, etc.
Shoes - platforms for mid seventies, clumpy shoes for the beginning and towards the end, platforms were out, with wine glass heels.
Think Three's Company by the way. Kaftans were also in.

early seventies had punk style, while the 70s in general had the disco fashion.
if you're going punk: black is a safe colour, have wacky jelled hair, and a lether jacket...ripped jeans are fine
OR if you're going disco, wear over the belly skinny and wide skirt (if you're not skinny), or a mini skirt, and a white shirt, a large head band, and if you're young: platform shoes!!
scroll down a bit: http://www.fashion-era.com/1970s/1970s_fashion_images.htm
p.s.: I checked somewhere local to your area. Is this close by?

the full 60's and 70's element can get slightly mixxed up. it truthfully relies upon on what you're watching. It particularly got here in on the late 60's. It flourished in the 70's. in case you prefer to ware the tye-dye and temper earrings then ware it on the 70's day. !=-)
