spend a long time by yourself or stop listening to other people. you will start to see the truth about things, about what you want in life, and the truth about the world. you should realize how brainwashed people are, because they listen to others too much, and you should start really being the boss of your life, and if people are dragging you down, then you don't need them,

Well self-realization (i.e. enlightenment) is a long ordeal that doesn't happen over the weekend or even a week. And it isn't just about realizing ourselves but actualizing ourselves. The main focus of self-realization is realizing(1), or becoming fully aware, of self. But we are already aware of ourselves.

What we need to do is self-actualize (2). After a lengthy understanding of our past experiences and our current Being we can fully understand what is our purpose.

Here is the main thing you need to understand: You exist...find out why you exist. Once you find out the cause for your existence the effect will be what you do with your existence.

Forget self-realization and work on self-actualization.

as far as experience may tell us, there is self-realization only when we are in a quagmire of a deep emotional setback. it is because it is but part of a human psyche that in times of downsides, we are forced to reflect on our own mortality and come face to face with it. keeping in touch with that reality then obtains for us a renewed appreciation of the life we live.
