You would probably need a new computer because your ram is already maxed out. What i would do is get all of the stuff of it that you want, put it on a new computer if you can afford one, than format the old one and only install essencial programs eg ms word\office and just use it for surfing the net and word processing because a format should speed it up a little and you only need heaps of power for games, but if it can still run evereything you need it to for now i would run disk defragmenter, disk cleanup, anti spy ware and anti virus, see if that cleans it up and keep using it for a while because i don't think that it is worth upgrading until you have to. I work in IT and see heaps of people who spend heaps of money on computers that they don't need.

What are you running? Linux? Windows 98? DOS? Windows XP? You want an answer to a question with very little detail.... kinda like asking your doctor, "What's wrong with me, I feel tired" and leaving out all the important details - like hoe much sleep you've been getting.

Want more disk space - go through your files and remove ones you don't need. You've told us NOTHING about what's on your computer so how can I tell you what to get rid of? At best I can say, clean out your temporary internet files and your temp folder... but beyond that...

Typically, for more speed, you either upgrade the CPU or add RAM (RAM usually makes a more noticeable improvement. If you're maxed out at 256, you probably should be looking at a new computer... that's just not much nowadays).

You can try to defrag your hard drive, that might improve speed a little. But it will NOT get you any more disk space.

Since you have already maxed out how much ram you can put in your computer, the only thing that I would do would be to buy a new computer that allows you much more ram. Get a new computer for a couple hundred dollars. At most you could upgrade on your computer is probably your hard drive size. Anything you upgrade would really be a waste, you really are in need of a new computer if you want an upgrade. I also agree with what someone else has mentioned...that upgrading a part could cause the domino effect. If you want more ram ok get more ram, but now to install it you need a new motherboard. So now you have a new motherboard, is your power supply now large enough to support the new hardware? So as you can see...this domino affect can be much more expensive then to just purchase a new computer.

It sounds like your computer is pretty old. You would be best to upgrade to a new system rather than spend money on the old one.

sounds like it might be time to upgrade the computer. but computers are cheap theses days so you should be able to find one that suits your needs and fits your budget. because in your case to upgrade one thing will cause a domino effect, upgrading one thing will mean upgrading another to support it.

if you are using vista (yeah, go vista) then you can use the function where you insert a removable flash drive and you can use it as a "speed booster"
