My Acer laptop (2 yrs old) had a trojan or 500, so I reinstalled Windows XP. Since then, there's no sound. I checked in Control Panel and it says there's no sound device... does that mean the sound card is broken?
PS - I checked that it's not on mute, etc.

*angst* my computer fixerer is in Dubai!

In this case, you need to install the drivers for your sound card. You may found, at support web page of Acer. When you install the drivers, the sound device will be found at Device Manager at Control Panel.
For the download of your sound drivers, please start from this page :

My buddy had the same problem, exactly, with his Acer laptop. You are missing some sound drivers and you will need to go online and download them.

Hope this helps you.
