incredible 'horror' movie based on the Lions of Savo. Terrifying stuff...the lion's body language was exquisite... and having grown up in the African continent and my own encounter with a lion captured fresh from the wild...while he was being prepared for shipping over to an american zoo...made the movie more than a movie for me.
They had just put the bloody bastard in a holding pen ten foot wide by seven feet high and about thirty feet long. I wandered away from the visiting party...and came to the end of the cage.
The lion was at the other end of the cage and turned around and saw. This thing came out of his mouth...I think they call it the lion's roar. Then it charged. If I had eaten anything earlier on in the day...I would have fouled myself. The roar carries in it a spirit that cannot be caged...death...and a sense of the inevitability of my own death...that I was incapable of moving.
I felt something in me..something primeval awaken...that allowed me to recognize on a primal level...the thing that was bearing down on me. The lion stopped short of the end of his cage...and I looked into his eyes. The message was clear and plain. He was leting me know that if i was on his turf...that would have been my a$$. Then he broke off and walked to the other end of the cage.
Watching the movie was far more than just a movie for me.
The moment where the lion drags homeboy out of the tent...where he faces Val kilmer and he gets 'hit'...right down to the moment where Val has his dream of his wife being eaten and he awakens to find out what has taken place while he was asleep left me with a knot in my throat that did not loosen for the duration of the movie.
Good stuff dude...and that is why when Brotherhood of the Wolves came out...I knew that the beast was a lion. One look in his eye told me all I needed to know. I have seen those eyes before.

I liked it so much that I have my very own copy of the film!
It was based on a true story of 2 man-eating lions (named The Ghost and The Darkness) eating all the workers while they were trying to build a railway. It is also highly unusual since 2 male lions rarely hunt together.
