I bought a '97 Chevy S10 the other day and as the seller was handing over the Your Valet keypad he said, "You might as well throw this thing away, if you use the remote start you could f*ck the starter up"

Anyone heard of or are aware of such a thing?

if the remote start is not program correct or the rpm ,tach sensing wire not install yes it is posible

start the truck with the keys
and the go outside and start the truck with the remote if the starter makes a noise or don't start the same way or takes longer you need to check the tach wire in your system the wire is
purple and white and it is connect it to the coil,or one of the injectors i have the programing instructions and wiring info if you need it

besides that the system is a very goos system and i have it in all my cars i been using remote starts since 1988 when it was 5 relays and two alarm channels never damage a single starter

If it's properly installed, a remote starter does the exact same thing you do when you turn the key to start the engine. Most remote start systems have an engine monitoring system that measures the engine RPM and stops cranking after the engine starts running. Others have a selectable crank time that will stop cranking after a certain point whether the engine starts or not.

Try the remote start and listen to see if it grinds the starter. If it sounds the same on remote start as when you start it with the key, then you should have nothing to worry about.

I've been using one on my car for a while and love it, works great. If done right should work just fine but since it's electronic it could do weird things if someone bodged the install.

Yep its continually extra suitable to have it placed in via the broking that is going to cost somewhat extra yet they are going to be in charge for the artwork. they might have purely shorted a twine or blown a fuse examine your end 1st then bypass lower back and communicate to them.
