How is it that there was a fourth Hokage before a third?
Also well any of you who are in the episodes of the new generation of naruto....I stop seeing naruto around episode 180 because i was tired of all the fillers...do you think its necessary for me to see all the episodes for me to understand the new ones?

The third hokage was before the Fourth, however, the Third retired, and the fourth hokage was chosen. Because the Fourth died (due to saving Konoha from the Kyubi), the Third had to take the Fourth's position as Hokage.
And no, you do not have to see the fillers to understand the new Naruto Shippudden. The fillers are irrelevent and boring. Well except for the last fillers. Those were pretty good, and it showed Naruto setting out to train with Jiraiya. I don't know if you want to see those episodes, but if you do, they're episodes 216-220.

The Third hokage Sarutobi saw the evil and darkness in Orochimaru and he therefore chose the Fourth to take his place instead of his student Orochimaru, but the Fourth died saving Konoha from the nine-tailed fox and there was nobody suitable to be Hokage so Sarutobi became Hokage again.
No, you do not have to see the fillers to understand the new Naruto Shippudden. The last filler episode, 220, has Naruto going off to train with Jirhiya, but it'a not important as Shippudden #1 has him coming back, so he leaves and suddenly comes back after 2 years go by in a flash.

The third hokage took over the fourth hokage's position when the latter died. He is the old man who can summon monkey. Fourth hokage is the student of Jiraiya, who in turn is the student of the third hokage.
No, the fillers are not necessary. The anime arc (which follows the manga) where Naruto returns from 2 1/2 years of training had started on Feb 2007 in japan.

The fourth hokage came after the third, but he died to seal the nine-tails fox in Naruto when he was a baby. You don't have to watch all the filler episodes, because they're like one story today and the next day another one, but if you want to watch them, do so, They're not that bad.

you see the fourth hokage died while defeating the nine tail fox,since no one is ready enough to be the fifth hokage the third living hokage replaced him for a time being
and i suggest not to watch the fillers ( so boring!! i hate it!!)

They can always choose a Hokage if they want... Um... Is your wish if you want to see the fillers or not...I have seen all and is quite nice... I guess you could just continue with the new ones...

i'm not sure about the hokage but i think the person who was supposed to be the 3rd hokage died and later they picked another hokage

the third took over again after the fourth died saving the village. no it is necessary to see all the old one to get the new ones.
