With a population of 1 billion, they should be able to do very well at a number of sports. Cricket, hockey, badminton, squash and why not some of the big money spinner sports worldwide like basketball, volleyball, football. With such a huge human resource, India has the potential to be a sporting giant.

india was a strong team in hockey those days,i think they should concentrate on hockey now beside cricket.
