When harvesting greens (romaine, spinach) is it better for the plant to tear the leaves or use herb scissors?

I always just pinch or break them off, I find if you use scissors they tend to brown at the cut. And pulling them out kind of defeats the purpose of perpetual spinach etc.

you yank the whole plant out..
They are not herbs where you can cut a sprig.

i have always used scissers for a nice clean cut.
