To control crime rates?

My question is to everyone here that
is it not better to punish people on the road who commit crimes which are so bad
e.g Delhi news of date 26.3.07 RAPE OF 3 minor girls.

The best way to decline crime rates is publicize the punishements imposed by the law onto these criminals. People would gradually learn the law works and they would avoid indulging into these activities out of fear.

The reason for high criminal rates is that people are not aware of the statisitcs. They have no idea how many murderers and rapists are behind the bars. Instead our media publicizes the criminal activites. They publicize how a criminal escaped from law. They never take care to emphasize on the other aspect.

nothing what ever it is we should hang the person who raped. not only rape for other crimes also give strong punishment . but in india money rulling the law (corruption) it makes much difference.we can decrease crime rate with dictator ship. it is the best way to decrease crime rate

Certainly a good idea if law permits as was commented by the hon'ble Supreme Court of India.

unfortunately we are more tolerant, very corrupt, more bureaucratic and claim more civilised than most other countries. if only we can execute open punishments, the crime rate may fall drastically.

the punchline of our system is nobody should be punished untill proven guilty. and more than anybody else, the criminals and corrupted are taking advantage

it should be on a case by case basis not the same for all cases this would control crime rates as ppl wont know what they are in for
