They actually DO shrink. But it isn't readily noticed because the rain shrinks everything else accordingly. Haven't you ever noticed that your shoes feel bigger after a downpour?

Well, if I'm right, you're comparing the sheep in the rain to a wool sweater in the wash. I don't think the wetness is what makes wool shrink. It's the wetness of the washer and the high heat of the dryer after wards. So, maybe if you took a wet sheep and threw it in a dryer, it's wool would shrink.

They do shrink in the rain. In fact, if you keep a sheep in a barn, and never let it get wet, it will grow to a size of 40 feet from nose to tail, and will weigh over 80 tons.

Hah, I thought this said "Why don't sheep STINK in the rain," to which my answer would have been: "Why are you smelling soggy sheep? And they probably do stink in the rain, actually..."

To your actual question though...the wool isn't processed yet?

Getting them wet doesn't shrink them. Putting them in the drier does, though.

When the wool comes out of there body it is already pre-shrunk when it gets sheared off it loses that moisture from the body so it kind of gets dried out. So when it gets wet it expands
