Iran is definitely trying to flex its muscles at the UK. And what is the UK doing about it? Nothing yet. Could this be viewed as weakness? Certainly.

When the men were being approached by the Iranian ship, the British ship called in for orders and they were told to stand down. They let it happen, quite honestly.

My personal opinion would have been to unload on that Iranian ship before they got a chance to approach these sailors. Now that it didn't happen, the situation is much stickier.

I am sure there are a good amount of Brits that are blaming America for this. (The blame the USA game is popular and easy.) "We shouldn't be in Iraq, this is what we get." or "The Americans kidnapped Iranians in Iraq! They got us into this!" could be typical responses. But this argument is a fallacy. You must address the issue at hand without excuses:

Iran nabbed these soldiers in Iraqi waters.

If Iran tries these people as spies, they could be executed. If this were to happen, one could imagine a military response. Even then, there will be anti-war protesters sticking up for one of the most intolerant and extremist Islamic nations in the world.

My bet is that Iran acts tough, does things on "their own terms", possibly HINTS (not demands) the release of Iranians held captive in Iraq. They look like they've won, even if they turn these sailors back over because there were no repurcussions on Iran for this blatant attack.

So yes, Britain is being pushed around like an Iranian woman who had accidentally dropped a head scarf.

I agree with mullah-mike (and btw, love the analogy of the Iranian woman who dropped her headscarf hahah)!

Britain has it's citizens to blame (apart from Iran of course). Their hippie'ish tendencies have eroded Blair's power base and diminishes respect. Iran is run by crazy misodgynist religious fanatics who HATE the West and everything the West stands for - democracy, freedom, rights of the individual, gender equality, etc.

The head honcho of Iran (I forget his name, the one with the beard - narrows it down huh) also staunchly denies that 6 million Jews were murdered in the Holocaust and although he won't say it outright, also hints that the Holocaust never occured and that it was an invention of evil Jewish-run America and the Hollywood media. CRAZY MAN!

Iran is like the Taliban from all accounts. Two peas in a pod. Read 'Not Without My Daughter' by Jean Sasson. Although the America-haters will say it's all lies made up by another evil American. pfft.

My point is, I feel very sorry for these poor soldiers who are out there trying to install democracy and peace in yet another crazy Arab country. God bless them and their poor families.

yer speilin is lighk kidz. Plus you are wrong.

mullah_mike -- I doubt the Brits will blame the US. The have good history, too, of messing with the Middle East. Americans get blamed for a lot of things because they do a lot of bad things. They are the primary rogue nation - the bully of our world.

Agreeing with mula is wrong because mula is wrong.

Tony Blair took his country to war because he believed the lies Bush and his community. Britain had its own inteiiigence in the area and they did not agree with the so-called truths that Bush was feeding them. Nevertheless, Blair hopped onto the American bandwagon. The citizens of the UK saw true the bull and especially now and protested Bush and Blair's invation of Iraq.

It seems that they are. I am wondering if Iran isn't trying to start something. I am thinking that if the british were in iranian territory it was probably a mistake, or they were pursuing some terrorists.

IRAN excercises its right to capture the illegal invaders to safeguard its sovereignity.

Those soldiers who entered illegally into Iranian waters must be punished.

The International community does not press the release of the soldiers but the rogue states like USA and its rogue ally Britain will do.

I think they are just exercising their international rights.

If America can go anywhere in the world, drag people back to a loophole in sovereignty and try them, then no-one can decry Iran for charging foreign military caught within their own boundaries with a crime.
