... apart from being evicted from the arena, should he be charged in court?? Why didn't the organizers do anything about it when he was heckling Serena earlier on in the match, and had to wait till she brought it to the attention of the umpire? I hope Oprah brings this matter up on her show because racists should be punished!!!!!!!!

I really can't believe some of the responses I'm reading: "It's just a word","Serena shouldn't mind being called such"
HELLO??

I was appalled when I read this story. Serena is one of the best players ever, I don't know how someone like this would even want to be at a tennis match. It's supposedly the "gentleman's sport." The conduct is totally inappropriate for any sport, he should never be allowed into another sporing event again. And.. he better watch out because Serena Williams is a pretty strong girl and if she finds out where the loser lives, she might kick the s*** out of him.

Okay, this jerk called her a ***** and not the other N word. The only thing that could happen to him was an ejection from future WTA and ATP events...As far as some of the other answers...."It's just a word"
Some words are not just words. If your mother called you a bi#ch, would it still be a word?
At the end of the day, this is just another thing that minorities have to deal with and I don't think that it will be that big of a deal after a couple of days. There will always be someone that wants to say something stupid..And don't tell me that he was just calling her what she was..What does being black have to do with hitting a tennis ball??

Last time I checked being a racist is not criminally punishible. Yup. Still applies. In fact, its protected by the 1st amendment and all.
The most that anyone COULD do was kick him out of the stadium.
And what, exactly, is Sony Erikson suing him for?
You, along with pretty much everyone, may not like something, but that doesn't make it either illegal or actionable in civil court.

Simple enough:
Wrong: Yes
Punishable by law: not really.
The tournament's organizers gave this clown really the harshist punishment he can receive, ejection from the tournament grounds.
Remember, hateful speech is free speech. Ignorant speech is free speech. The fact that most of us don't like it doesn't change a thing. Racism and ignorance are still bad, but if someone was able to punish you because they didn't like what YOU said, that would be bad too. Having freedom of speech means dealing with this bozo, and other stuff like "Bong hits for Jesus".
Racism and ignorance suck, but living in a facist state would suck more...

Press charges against him for what? Heckling? Being a racist? Neither of those are offenses that he/she can be charged with. Get a clue there are BILLIONS of ppl in the world and not everyone is gonna get along. There will always be bigots, racists, sexist, were not all gonna like each other. They were right in throwing him/her out of the stadium but there is nothing else they can do about it.

I think the racial slur against serena was wrong...but i don't think that the suspect should be charged in court because its only a name, i mean i think that serena is mature enough to not be offended by the word "nlgger"....she is a pro athlete....
