"Due to the long, narrow build, they are sometimes referred to in the United States and elsewhere as a wiener dog, hot dog, or sausage dog, though such terms are sometimes considered disparaging."

Dachshunds are referred to as "Weiner Dogs" because of the way they look. They are long and skinny and resemble a hotdog.
I personally love them and think they are the cutest dogs in the world. I have several of them. They are GREAT pets. Very loving, affectionate and loyal to their owners.
