These are SOME of the records that Wilt Chamberlain holds:

Most points in a single game:) 100

Number of games with 70+ points:) 6

Number of games with 50+ points:) 120

Number of games with 40+ points:) 271

CONSECUTIVE games with 50+ points:) 7

CONSECUTIVE games with 40+ points:) 14

CONSECUTIVE games with 30+ points:) 65

CONSECUTIVE games with 20+ points:) 126

Highest scoring average in one season:) 50.4 ppg

Highest FG% in one season:) 73%

Most CONSECUTIVE FG made :) 35

Seasons leading league in FG% :) 9

Most FG in one game without a miss:) 18

Career rebounds:) 23,924

Most rebounds in one game:) 55

Highest rebounding average in one season:) 27.2 rpg

Highest career rebounding average:) 22.9

Most seasons leading the league in rebounds:) 11

Plus........

He's the only CENTER in history to lead the league in assists per game (1968), something Jordan never came close to doing, and he was a GUARD!

Wilt Chamberlain is the only player in history to post a "double", triple-double: 22 points/ 25 rebounds/ 21 assists on Feb 2, 1968

All this while playing the most minutes per game in history: 45.8

And to the moron who said you can't count Wilt because of the time he played.....look at the NBA top fifty players of all time list. You'll see that Wilt played against the majority of them. I can't see Wilt having much trouble with Ilgauskas or Chris Mihm...lol

To put this in perspective, Michael Jordan NEVER scored 70 points in one game, and Wilt has 4 times as many 50+ point games as MJ ( 120 to 30 ). And, Wilt is tied with Jordan for most points per game, despite MJ having over 1,000 more FG attempts.

Blocks and steals were not a recorded stat when Wilt played ( unofficial stats say Wilt had at least 8-10 blocks per game), and neither were all-defensive teams ( Wilt would have been on those every year as well.).

Wilt was the greatest scorer, best rebounder, and most dominant player the NBA has ever seen.

'jd.....sorry buddy, you're gonna need alot more proof than that to even come close to Wilt.....lol

Michael Jordan without a doubt. I'm not really for Chamberlain, that's just me all right.

Coz it's not really about the scoring and the whole 100 pts. I bet Kobe's gonna be beating that anytime soon with the whole 58 ppg in 4 games going on lately.

Jordan's a real team player. Bulls became champions ever since he set foot there. And he didn't even have to make 100 pts a game to do that. :)

Michael Jordan is without a doubt, the greatest basketball player ever to lace up a pair of Air Jordans. Nobody will ever
be any better than His Airness!

Oscar Robertson is the best player in my opinion. he averaged a triple double for gods sake. Basketball is more than scoring, and he did it all.

On the other hand you can't argue with Wilt "the Stilt"
just look at the record books. He owns all that Sh!t

Jordan revolutionized the marketing and business of the NBA as far as Globalization is concerned. But they had to change so many rules of the game b/c of the Wilt.
Lets be serious.

Two people are never comparable unless it is their similarities that are compared. As a whole, we may want to ask who is the most efficient player or who is the most gracious, or who has the most impact on the game, or who dunks the best, or who is the best leader or who can take over the game etc... These great players fall into the category of best players but not in a ranking fashion.

No not in my opinion. I can name a handful of players who i believe are better than him. My #1 overall is Magic Johnson. Why you ask? B/c he was the most well rounded player i have ever seen play. He helped revolutionize his position being a 6'9" PG and his ability to drive, score from deep, rebound, and pass was uncanny. Jordan was great, he has his own legacy, but i think everyone likes to call him the best b/c he is "fresh" in our minds.

Example: Magic Johnson had to play the most opposite of his own position, Center, in a (i believe) game 7 of the NBA championship b/c Kareem Abdul Jabbar was injured. In that game he dominated down low despite the fact he was a PG, he had something around 41 pts, 12 reb, and 10 assists...maybe not the exact statistics but it is damn close and i know he had a double double and 40 pts possibly a triple double.

I can't really say NO now! In about 4 to 5 years, I would say no without a doubt in my mind. Kobe is right under MJ right now in the King of B-Ball department. He has beaten lots of MJ records and only needs 3 championships to shut most people up! IF Kobe dose get a ring or two with this team, then he will be the best for a long time. See MJ had another Hall of Famer and top 50 player in Pippin. Kobe only has Odom, who is real good, almost great, but not top 50 yet! Maybe Bynum can help Kobe get there. He has been robed of two MVP's so far, one from Shaq (Lakers) and one from Steve Nash (Lat Year). And if Kobe doesn't get one this year, he'll be robed again. Kobe has the ability to turn his game of and on. Thats an MVP. He is helping his team get ans stay in the Playoffs, thats an MVP. He is the top scorer in the NBA two years in a row, thats an MVP. Without Nash, the Suns would still get in the Playoffs.

And we can't put Wilt here because of the time he played. Thou great, he wouldn't get 100 points in this day and age. Kobe's 81 and 4 50+ in a row was amazing in this respect.

No, Wilt Chamberlin is by far the best. Their is many facts and statistics that can prove it. His most impressive? Scoring 100 points in a game. I don't think I need to say more.
