In my opinion, you should blame only 4 guys, Uthappa, Sachin, Dhoni & Yuvraj....

Because...

Captain played well - scored 60
Sehwag (at last) - played well, scored almost 50 (48)
Ganguly - The law of averages got him...otherwise he scored good number of runs in the cup....(You can partially blame him if you want)...
Our Bowlers - they did a fairly good job of restricting Lanka to 254..which is NOT such a big score to get scared...No blame.

Chappel - As we all know, a coach does his job, that is coach the team, if the team does'nt deliver, the coach should not be blamed 100%..what do you think ?

Selection Committe - Blame them for NOT picking Wassim Jaffer, Laxman, Sreesanth, Kaif...

Do you agree with my assessment? Or do you differ?

Please reply, I am loosing my sleep pondering over this !!!

You did pretty well in your analysis. Only Sehwag could have been substituted with Laxman or Kaif. Sehwag sleeping for two years and then included in WC is not justified. We don't know the Team's collective behaviour. Whether they had any misunderstandings with each other/coach etc which led to selfish playing, we don't know. Team means a collective effort. Our weakpoint is the opening. That should have been taken care of from the beginning. I blame the coach and the captain for this. As Siddhu pointed out somewhere, our team is like a cycle stand. Once the first cycle falls, all the other cycles fall automatically. This should have been strengthened. That is the main point of defeat.

One line answer for this question is impossible. It all started with the decision of previous Chairman of Selection Committee to do away with the then Captain based on a leaked e-mail. Things started worsening with each passing day with each of the Board bigwigs showing their readiness to get themselves involved and increase the controversy. More chaos followed. Any body daring to utter a word against the powerfuls were humiliated and threatened. It started groupism in the team which not so long ago was a well knit family. There were clear divides. Dravid faction, Tendulkar faction, Ganguly sympathisers etc. The so called big brains of Cricket added more spice to the simmering curry without being concerned about the end result. So that's what we have got. Any takers ?

Kiron More, Chappel, Rahul Dravid, Vengsarkar and Sharad Power. They took the key decisions. They spoilled a cohesive team with an aggressive captain that India had and formed a demoralised team. They gave captainship to a person who did not have emotional ties with the team, they allowed a coach who is a research and development specialist to start dictating about who should be in the team and play what role and in what order, a selector who talked big knowing that he would not be there to take decisions, another selector who did not have the guts to change the previous selectors decision about captaincy and the role of the coach and a politician who probably never plated cricket not showing the guts to send back Chappel and start back from the team that John right had left. He was more concerned with how to get rid of Dalmia.

The fading stars. When in 2003 Sachin , Saurav, Rahul and Sehwag could not win the cup, then how could have they done it when they are on decline. Some of them are still dreaming of playing the world cup in 2011!
The selectors should also be blamed for not promoting the young players. Sehwag is being given umpteen opportunities while players like Gambhir and Raina are dropped after few failures.

I think you are right but i don,t understand why Yuvraj he played well. I think the captain is also very much resposible because of his wrong decisions on & off the field. I think he should have included Irfan pathan/Dinesh karthik as a batsman in the team instead of Robin Utthappa.
Lack of team spirit is also responsible for which we can blame captain & the coach.

Agree ... but also Team work is not there in the team

a 30 for team is better than a century for personal score

All the batsmen are to be blamed for this worst performance....Sachin,Dhoni,Uthappa are to be blamed..Harbhajan did not take a single wicket which also let us down...So i think we can join Harbhajan in that list...
I am too having sleepless nights my friend, thinking of this horrible exit from the world cup..!!

In Short

Ganguly has proved himself.
Dravid has proved he is good player but not captain.
Robin Uthapa is too young to be commented.
Sehwag should go out as scoring aginst bermuda is like scoring in Indian alleys against local teams, nothing great.he should be taken out immediately.
Yuvraj--big disaster.
Dhoni--Well what to say ,hairs became too heavy.
Sachin tendulkar---please retire with respect else indian way is their in future.

so in a nut shell Sachin must go and rest of them should work hard.

yes.I agree with u.Chappel can not be blamed 100% as he was not playing. It was the fault of players who played badly.Selection committe has done mistake by not picking up new and lively players. No players have the good "josh" to play well. They also lacked confidence and got nervous i think due to fall of early wickets.

We can not blame individual players but it was the fault of the whole team who played badly.

Indians and none else.

The sports level of individual Indian is very low when compared to world. You'll see it aftereffects not only in cricket but and other sports activity.

In other words you and me are to blame. Let's not pass it to 11+ players. If you and me had followed this career the result wouldn't have been different.

Let's start taking active participation in sports, starting from your and my home.
