I had my first baby 9 weeks ago, and while it wasn't an extremely fast labor (nine hours), I consider it to be fairly fast. I'm consedering maybe trying to get pregnant again in about a year. I was wondering what the odds are of having a labor this fast or faster again? How did your labor lengths compare?

Thanks for all the answers! I love hearing and sharing birth stories. Now I never said my labor was easy! I skipped first stage entirely and went right into pretty hard labor. I had back labor the entire time too! I also had an hour and a half drive to the hospital, on mostly bumpy roads from a huge construction project! I was 42 weeks along too. I had him completely natural dispite the back and leg pain b/c I cant stand the thought of a needle in my spine...lol. My water broke right at the end which got rid of my back labor. He was out after three pushing contractions. I really wanted a water birth but they wouldn't let me b/c there was meconium in my water when it broke. Maybe next time!

34 hours, 16 hours, 9 hours.
Each person will not have the same thing of going down each time. It is the norm that it does.
But nothing is a 100%.

As for planning your next child your labor does help you reflect on more babies, So does time.
Enjoy the little one. And in 6 months you will know more about wanting to plan an other.

That is so funny. My first labor was 9 hours to. At the time I thought it was forever, but was told it was fairly quick for a first baby.
My second was born in an hour and a half!!!!

These are both counting from the time I arrived at the hospital. With first contractions started at exactly midnight and she was born that day. My second the contractions started at around 8pm the day before. But because I knew to not panic and rush to the hospital straight away. I waited until they were actually 2 mins apart. With first I went as soon as they started to hurt a little bit because I didnt know what to expect.

Not sure about my all my friends labors, but I do know her 4th was super quick. She was still in the wheelchair being wheeled to the labor room when he just slid out!!! Luckily she knew the feeling and was able to get the nurse to catch him before he hit the ground!!

Odds are good that it will be faster. My first one was 3 hours 41 minutes from the time my water broke... to birth. My second one exactly 2 hours. I was going to be induced because the doctors didn't want to take a chance that I wouldn't make it to the hospital... so when I went in for my induction, they broke my water at 9:00 am... but held off on the pitocin (because contractions were coming along very fast and sharp within 10 minutes). I delivered my daughter at 11:00 am.
They joke at the hospital where I gave birth to both my kids... that I've probably set a record.

I have 2 kids. The first was 2 weeks late and labor was 19 and half hours and they did an emergency c-section after that length of time because they lost his heart rate and he got stuck.
My second child was due 4/18 didn't go ever go into a strong active labor but mild contractions started on the 23rd. I had a C-section with her also.Of all the friends and family I have all the women who've had one speedy labor/delivery seemed to have quick ones with their other pregnancy's also.
Each pregnancy is as different as each child is, so who knows what may happen.

I'm so jealous that it was so easy for you, and congratulations on being a New Mommy.. you have lots of work ahead of you and lots of love to look forward to.

My wife's labor got faster and faster. The first 12 hour, the second eight and the last was just two hours! She is so stoic that the nurse didn't think we needed to come to the hospital but she knew better and went any way. When we got there the nurses thought we'd be waiting a long time until they checked dialation. Woah! He's coming now!

Odds are your next labor will be easier, but every pregnancy is different. My 18 year old was 24 hours of labor, and was enough to make me not ever want to do it again...however by the time i had my son, my labor was only 2 hours long, and was easy as pie. If you really want another child and can afford it, go for it and best of luck!

First baby i was in labor for allmost 26 hours, ALL back labor too!!! Second baby was a planned c-section, and with the twins I was in pre labor for allmost 15 hours before I delivered.
I'd say you have a 50 50 chance of having another easy labor. It all depends on the pregnancy and how you carry..

one million. How lengthy do you feel your labour was once? I was once brought about so not ever rather had any early labour two. How lengthy have been you in situated labour in step with your delivery notes (that is counted from 4cm dilated most likely)? 10 hours. In united kingdom situated labour is labeled from 3cm dilated. three. How so much of this time was once spent pushing? two hours, that is longer than natural however there have been no indicators of any disorders or foetal misery so midwife was once comfortable to me maintain and growth was once being made four. Did you will have any style of intervention (e.g. ventouse, forceps, c-segment)? Nope, did all of it on my possess and not using a anguish alleviation (besides gasoline and air while I was once in first degree. Nothing used for supply). As for now not being "allowed"- I feel it depends upon situations. For illustration, if you are exhausted and little one is in a nasty function it possibly noticeable that a common delivery is not going down. However if there are not any indicators of foetal misery or different headaches then you're going to be allowed to make a decision how lengthy to maintain labour. In the UK an induction is applied if a girl's waters holiday over 24 hours earlier than however labour does not begin as a result of the hazard of contamination, however there is not any set time period as to while intervention is used- it is headquartered way more at the man or woman situations on the time.

There are alot of things that can decide that--I've heard from alot of women that labor gets shorter with each baby. (My mom's did, she had 5 kids total--and the youngest almost came before she even got to the hospital!) My first was 5 hours, which almost seemed really short. So if this next one is the same length, that will be fine with me. Also, any drugs you have during labor can slow it down/speed it up.
