I have to scrape my lips two or three times a day to remove this layer of gunk. I usually wipe it on the underside of my shirt, because I've noticed that when it dries it looks like dried up skin. How is this happening and what can I do to prevent it or control it?

I think it's gross when I try to drink from a glass and leave my lip gunk on the rim of the glass, especially on a date.

I get the same thing. Other than just using a lip moisturizer, drink more water, not sure how much we're supposed drink a day, but it's more than most people usually do. Alot of sodas and stuff dehydrate/make you thirsty. And a good technique that most people don't know about is to put on chapstick [personally I use cocoa butter] before you go to sleep. Keep the lips moisturized, think about how times you've waken up with mummy-dry lips. It's worked for me but I just get to lazy to do it sometimes. Don't sweat it, you'll have kissable lips before you know it. ;)

You need water. The gunk is basically the same thing that build up on your teeth to cause plaque.

It's not really avoidable, but you should always keep yourself hydrated..always always always drink water or other fluids.
