Looking to find out the FCC guidlines are for billboard advertising (specifically in California if possible). What exactly can you get away with on a billboard? Are they privately owned? Need to know ASAP....writing a research paper.
Thanks for any help

The FCC is mostly concerned with broadcast media (radio, TV) and print media that crosses state lines.

In my experience billboards do not move across state lines, and can not be broadcast. They would be subject to the standards of the community in which they reside.

Most billboards are privately owned, by advedrtising companies who rent them to other businesses. Ever notice a small sign at the bottom of a billboard ... "Ajax Outdoor Advertising" (or something similar)? That is the advertising company's ad! They own the sign!

Why would a federal agency want to get involved in a local affair? It would be stupid, and somewhat less than economical! The feds have far better things to waste taxpayer's dollars on!

It is regulated more by the local government. I 've seen some pretty bad one in LA. Its cut throat business.
