i have canceled a credit card before simply because at that time i didn't use it even once but the bank keep sending monthly bills asking me to pay-up the annual fees and some don't know what charges.
so i just go to one of their branch, surrender my credit card telling them i wanted to cancel it, the officer in charged cuts that card into two pieces in front of me as an evident that it was being destroyed, i don't have to pay anything too !
They never send me any bill ever since !
hence i don't think mere phone call would be able to solve your problem ! Good luck !

You don't have to write a letter to cancel the cards. All you have to do is call the phone number on the back of the card or on the bill and tell them that you want to cancel. Don't let them charge you any fees.

if the bill from the bank ask you to pay for the annual fee, just write a letter to them to cancel the card and they would not charge you for that.

If your Credit card need to pay Annual subscription then u better cancel it since u don't use it. If it is a free annual subscription card, then just put it with u, who knows u may need it one day.
N remember different bank got different policies, u mus check Ur terms and condition. cos some card u need to use up to certain amount then only Ur Annual subscription is waive.

HAVE TO GO TO THE BANK YOU GOT THE CARD FROM and say you want to close the account. Otherwise, yes you'll be charged an annual fee.

applying credit card is esp easy, but not terminating it. mere phone calls wont do. they will 100% ask u to fill up a form, drive all the way to that particular bank, take a number, then question u again why u wanna terminate. good luck.
