Moments ago my wife showed me a sort of mucus substance, with the texture of jelly. It is oudorless and somewhat transparent. We believe it to be amniotic fluid.

I have attended hundreds of births and no, this is not amniotic fluid. It sounds like mucous. As a woman's cervix starts to change, you can have the mucous plug, which is just mucous that makes it difficult for bacteria to get up into the baby's environment (as well as the amniotic sac), fall out. Nothing to worry about unless you are not very far along in the pregnancy. It could also just be mucous from her and not the actual plug at all. See your OB if you are concerned!

Depending on how far along your wife is and how much liquid there was it could just be a show (mucus plug). This can happens weeks before the baby is born.

no its not the amnio. fluid, could be her mucus plug, which can be clear, yellow, thick, kinda like boogers, a tinge of red, remember she doesnt have to have all these things for it to be her mucus plug. oh by the way when her water starts to break, it will be watery could be mistaken for pee.
