Be safe first. Does that person know anything about you that could destroy your professional life? If the answer is NO then proceed to the next question....Did the person cross you in any way? If the person did, BLACKMAIL his/her ***. That's the best move. He/She becomes your puppet...Ah yes...revenge is best served ice cold!!!

not for a simple, stupid, dumb thing that happened years ago.

It depends on many other things.

If it were important to the security of a company or the country.
If it put the lives or investments of other people in jeopardy
If you knew someone committed fraud or theft or murder and didn't tell, you could be considered an accessory after the fact.

accessory
Function: noun
1 a : a person not actually or constructively present but contributing as an assistant or instigator to the commission of an offense -- called also accessory before the fact b : a person who knowing that a crime has been committed aids or shelters the offender with intent to defeat justice -- called also accessory after the fact

I wouldn't really want to know something that could destroy someone's "professional" life. But if I did know, I won't tell unless I HAVE to.

I have so much dirt on the staff here I could have at least half of them fired on the spot. So far nobody has crossed me bad enough to get me to spill.

Depends on what that secret is. If he is a terrorist and trying to plot a bomb then I would have no choice I guess !

I'd rent a billboard by their house.

I'd put it on the billboard.

I'd call them and tell them to look out their window... and laugh and laugh.

Either that, or I'd keep it to myself. It just depends on what it is and who it is about. Context, my friend, is everything.

It would depend on what the secret is. If it was something like child molestation or murder ... yes, anything else ... probably not.

*** depends... is it in anyone's best interest that i tell? if it's strictly for spite or the sake of gossip then NO. if someone's getting hurt or there's the potential of that then i probably would.
