Every hear the expression "History repeats itself?" With a mentality like yours, that's why we cannot let bygones be bygones. That's as stupid as saying so what if Hitler gassed millions of innocent Jews, his soldiers raped their daughters, experimented on human beings without the benefit of anesthesia even. Why can't we let bygones be bygones? Number one, be grateful people gave their lives so you didn't have to experience hatred, predjuice and total injustice, and be helpless to do anything about it because nobody would listen to or believe it at the time. To answer your question - NEVER. Because only by remembering and learning from the past can we hope to prevent the same from ever happening again to anyone. Isn't that why history is taught? But it's going on in Africa, Afghanistan and other countries around the world even now, and people still refuse to believe that anything so horrid could happen. That is why we can never let bygones be bygones. Let somebody wake YOU up in the middle of the night, drag you out of what you thought was the safety and security of your bed and home, rape your wife or daughter in front of you, flail your son, yada, yada, yada....all because of the color of your skin or religion you practice.......your question would be far different.

I believe that you question is not racist, but I am sort of tired of seeing some of these questions. I think that we have let bygones be bygones. We do not fault your ancestors for what they did and pray that it was not passed down. If you look at some of the questions here, you will see that there is an over abundance of racist and ignorant questions. This type of behavior makes it bad for people that just want to live harmoniously with everyone.

Slavery wasn't that long ago. Let bygones be bygones? Yes how about you tell that to Holocaust survivors, or family members..or better yet, tell that to a young girl that was molested by her father. It's not really the same thing...but when horrible things happen, you can't really let it go--that easily. At the same time, I don't go around hating caucasian people because of slavery.

We should never forget. This is how we learn and hopefully never repeat this . Besides the US officially practiced apartheid until the Civil Rights Act of 1965 was passed. This is only a little over a generation ago, My father who is from Chile, remembers being told he could not drink form a "white only" drinking fountain in Louisiana. Just last summer we traveled to Mississippi and I was told "your mixed kids sure are pretty". My husband is white and I am Hispanic. So please do not tell me that bygones are bygones.

If your parents were beatened, raped, humiliated etc. would you just let it go? wouldnt you feel for what your parents and many other people went through at the hands of people who thought they were superior? not to mention a people who have oppressed not only blacks but natives of the americas? Its like me saying, "Why cant white people get over 9/11?" since it was mostly whites who died that day and then you see a wave of whites being "patriotic"...a lot of whites havent stopped having a hateful mentality, theyre still doing their atrocities up to this day,but you act like this happened so long ago since it doesnt affect you or you dont actually witness these hate crimes taking place. Do some research.

For the most part, all the white people I meet couldn't care less about race. The only people I see that get upset over anything that could be taken in any way as a "racial item" are some of the people that claim to be supressed.

Whatever...

Too many people CAN'T let it go. They love the attention. They like getting "things" because of the color of their skin.
